Bill McKechnie

Director:
Bill McKechnie

Arrived in '72 from Vancouver, a graduate of UBC law school and practiced with a large firm of lawyers for 3 years. Bought and renovated what was to become called a 'Heritage' house in the (then) slums of James Bay.  Had three kids and became a founding member of the JBCA which was instrumental in halting the high-rise apartment construction in that area.

Started the 35 unit James Bay Co-op Housing Assoc in '75
Left the practice of law and started a construction company that did heritage renovations and then in 1983 rebuilt the McClure building at Humboldt and Vancouver St. into a high end B&B Inn (The Beaconfeild Inn). I followed that with Abigails Hotel in 1986 along with Humbldt House and the Bedford Regency on Gov't st.

In '94 I retired from the hotel business and  started  an eco-tourism business which involved  traveling the BC coast and taking groups into remote area, wildlife viewing etc.
Presently working on an innovative development for rental units on Chambers St. Enjoying life and my grandchildren.
